The weather today was rather mixed in the morning; cloudy and overcast with a strong westerly wind.. but it was nice and warm. However, the weather in the afternoon completely changed with some prolonged periods of warm sunshine – perfect for some butterflies!! So I headed down to the south of Pickering with hopes of picking up some summer butterflies… and I wasn’t disappointed. The first butterflies I came across were some Commas feeding on some Hawthorn flowers. They were in absolutely brilliant condition – probably just emerged. And just a short stroll down the footpath there were lots of  Red Admirals feeding on the Cow Parsley. As the Sun was shining it was great to catch some of these butterflies in some dappled light  and spent a great 2 hours photographing these gorgeous butterflies -what a great way to spend the afternoon!!!
